International Franchise Association
The International Franchise Association (IFA) is the world’s largest franchising association and the Franworth team maintains a close relationship with the organization. Founder and CEO John Rotche was awarded IFA’s coveted Entrepreneur of the Year distinction in 2011 and he has served on the IFA’s Board of Directors since 2015. Franworth Managing Director and Partner David Barr was the IFA Chairman of the Board as well as being a multi-unit franchise owner. As Chairman of the Board, Barr used his platform to positively influence legislation affecting franchisors and franchise owners via political and media outreach efforts. Franworth’s newest executive board member and partner, Drew Brees, first met Rotche at IFA’s 2012 NFL Franchising Bootcamp event to teach NFL players and their spouses more about franchising opportunities.
Two of Rotche’s mentors, Domino’s Pizza Founder Tom Monaghan, and Service Brands International Founder David McKinnon, are also former recipients of IFA’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. To give back to an organization and industry, which has meant so much to him, Rotche and the Franworth team help sponsor the IFA’s annual Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Franworth was created to mentor founders of our affiliated brands as they transition to becoming franchisors and while on their journey to reaching the critical 100-unit mark. Additionally, Rotche recognized that all franchisees from various brands would benefit from connecting with fellow franchisees, so he founded the International Franchise Association’s FranShip program, which fosters mentoring for its members. The group shares best practices and receives strategic positioning guidance and advice from some of the franchise industry’s premier leaders.
The program formalizes roles of mentor and mentee for IFA members including guidelines for a prosperous mentor/mentee relationship.
Service Brands International Co-founder David McKinnon created and funded NextGen - an annual, global competition for up to 20 young entrepreneurs to excel in business and in franchising. Rotche serves as a competition judge and as a tribute to McKinnon’s mentorship, he is paying it forward by donating the proceeds from his book, REACH to support future NextGen winners.
At the 2019 NextGen competition, Rotche met Venuste Kubwimana, who founded A Water Kiosk at School who won the Social Enterprise Franchise award. Following his win, the Franworth team began mentoring Kubwimana and created a website, business plan and a Go Fund Me account to raise awareness and funding for this amazing cause, which is building entrepreneurial skills with students and providing clean water. A Water Kiosk at School
Venuste Kubwimana founded A Water Kiosk at School and was introduced to Franworth after winning the NextGen Social Enterprise Franchise at the 2019 International Franchise Association Convention. A Water Kiosk at School has a two-fold mission: to serve and empower the youth of Africa through business experience by providing rural communities with access to affordable, clean drinking water. Since November 2013, the organization’s 12 water kiosks has provided clean water to more than 120,000 people (nearly 7,000 students) and incorporated business management curriculum throughout 12 different schools. Each kiosk is built on the grounds of a local, primary school and taps into its water supply in order to sell the water to community members.
The Franworth team is passionate about supporting entrepreneurs like Venuste and his cause inspired our team to get involved and share our resources. With Franworth’s help, A Water Kiosk at School hopes to educate others on its new website, social media channels and via video on the serious water crisis that faces so many rural communities in Africa, while highlighting the importance of strengthening the youth of each country.
Franworth’s Launch Internship Program provides students opportunities to work alongside some of the top professionals in the franchising world. This internship, unlike many others, will expose you to the inner-workings of helping develop an emerging brand as well as the day-to-day operations of an established and mature concept.
Our internships are project based and could include a variety of assignments including consumer research, digital marketing campaigns, reconciling accounts, creating financial reports and much more. We are looking for students from freshmen to seniors, who are self-motivated and eager to acquire real-life business world experience. Franworth has an exceptional culture and schedules are flexible to work around class schedules.

He also provides specific tactics of how to find strong role models, set and reach goals beyond what seems possible and how to inspire the next generation of leaders. Proceeds from REACH will go toward the International Franchise Association’s NextGen program to support new entrepreneurs.
